Central Cariboo Search and Rescue sees largest influx of members since covid

Central Cariboo Search and Rescue (CCSAR) have seven new ground search and rescue members.

The new members took a 90 hour course, provided by the Justice Institute of British Columbia, with hands on training on basic ground search and rescue skills.

Member and Public Relations Coordinator, Debra Bortolussi says all the training was put to a final test.

“They take everything they’ve learned, all those hands-on components, and they go and spend a night alone, while being overseen by the CCSAR team.” says Bortolussi

“They have to get a fire started, they have to build an adequate shelter, and they have to spend the full evening alone, all with just what they have on their pack.”

Bortolussi added that this is the most people that have joined CCSAR since the pandemic, which has been great to see.

She says they’re always looking for new members, and will be doing another course like this when there are enough members.
