City of Williams Lake ratifies collective agreement with unionized employees

The City of Williams Lake and International Union of Operating Engineers Local 882-B ratified terms of a new four year collective agreement.

The agreement covers all unionized employees, providing wage increases totaling 16.25 percent over four years (5.75 percent, 4.5 percent, 3 percent, 3 percent).

In the release, the City recognized the previous agreement had fallen short to the actual rate of the consumer price index by 6.71 percent, starting the new agreement.

The collective bargaining process was completed in two days, with teams from both parties prepared well in advance, and the changes made to the agreement were fair for both the employer and union.

Chief Administrative Officer, Gary Muraca said “The successful collective bargaining process is a testament to the relationship the City has with the Union, and reflects employee morale and the positive work environment fostered at the City.”

The new agreement will start on July 1st, 2024 and expire June 30th, 2028.
