Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oakes insists however that it really boils down to the challenges related to declining enrollment.
She says Quesnel’s funding per student has increased from around 68-hundred dollars back in 2001 to around 11-thousand now.
Oakes says that is due to funding protection and basically means that Quesnel is still being funded like it has more than 5 thousand students when it is now down to around three thousand.
She says the province has recognized the challenges that some communities are having with declining enrollment by providing funding protection.
As for what she can do to help, Oakes says will be reviewing the material and promises to take the concerns and frustrations that she’s heard back to Victoria.
She also encourages people to get involved in the 60-day consultation period that is now underway.
It was reported earlier that three Quesnel schools could be on the chopping block come March.
