New Provincial Court judge appointed with ties to the Cariboo

The Government of BC appointed two new Provincial Court judges, with one having ties to the Cariboo.

Sabena Thompson has practised law for over 20 years, and began her career working for a private law firm in 100 Mile House, practicing civil litigation, criminal defence and family law.

She then joined the B.C. Prosecution Service as Crown counsel in Williams Lake, exclusively doing criminal law in 2005.

Thompson’s also held leadership positions with the B.C. Prosecution Service, including as the administrative Crown for Williams Lake, Indigenous court Crown counsel, and recently as a deputy regional Crown counsel in the northern region of B.C.

The province added that she’s worked closely with various Indigenous communities in the province, assisting in the development of Indigenous sentencing courts.

Thompson will begin her new role on April 15th, with the second judge, Mandy Klien on April 29th.

More information on the new Provincial Court judges can be found on the Province’s website here.
