Northern Health warns of fraudulent phone calls involving prizes and home safety inspections

Northern Health says they’ve become aware of several incidents of fraudulent phone calls claiming to be from Northern Health staff.

According to the health authority, call recipients are being told they’ve won a prize or a free home safety inspection.

“A few people have reached out with messages either via social media or through Northern Health staff to inquire about whether or not these calls that they had received are legitimate,” said Northern Health Spokesperson Eryn Collins.

Collins said this is something that happens on occasion.

“When we become aware of these potentially fraudulent phone calls or email campaigns or offers, then we make sure that we’ve checked with all our programs to make sure that it isn’t something legitimate,” Collins explained.

“We do encourage people who are being contacted, whether it’s by email or phone call from someone claiming to be a Northern Health representative or otherwise using our Northern Health name or names of our facilities that they don’t hesitate to reach out to Northern Health to confirm that they are legitimate.”
