On ice activities to resume at the West Fraser Centre in Quesnel

Good news for most arena users.
City Manager Byron Johnson says a lot of the water from the fire in the concession at the West Fraser Centre has been cleaned up and there is now an estimated re-opening date.
“The feeling at this point is that it should open tomorrow (Thursday) for regular ice activities.   But it’s anticipated that the lobby, the concession and the walking track will be down until further notice.”
Johnson says it definitely could have been a lot worse.
“And what this shows is that even though the damage from the sprinklers, it shows that the systems all work as intended.  There was a fire, no one was there, the sprinklers deluged that area and managed to knock the fire back to the point it was just about out.  Unfortunately, it creates water damage but that is a lot better than the alternative of a major structural loss.”
The Quesnel Fire Department responded to a fire at the West Fraser Centre at 11-15 Tuesday morning.
Fortunately the fire was contained to the concession area.
