Fire fighters in Quesnel responded to a house fire over the weekend.
Fire Chief Ron Richert says the call came in on Saturday night to the Johnston Subdivision.
“On Saturday at approximately 11-20 p.m., the Quesnel Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 200 block of Gardiner Street in Johnston Sub. Upon arrival we had a fully involved structure fire. A total of 19 fire fighters and 5 trucks responded.”
Richert says the cold definitely presented some challenges.
“It was about -25 that evening so there are lots of challenges with water lines, keeping the water flowing obviously, and any water that was on the ground caused some issues with ice buildup in the subdivision there, so city crews were called in and did a great job of sanding the roads.”
Richert says no one was home at the time so there were no injuries.
He says there were other homes nearby but they managed to prevent the fire from spreading so there was no exposure damage to them.
Richert says fire fighters were on scene for about 5 hours.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
