Hundreds of pounds of vegetables were reclaimed from Soda Creek Sweet Corn and delivered to many organizations in the communities of Williams Lake and Quesnel.
The Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society’s Annual Gleaning program harvested 330 pounds of leftover food thanks to the help of many volunteers and farm owners, the Kaufmans, who donated it.
Program Coordinator Daniella Gastadello listed some of the many groups that benefited from this labour of love.
“We donated to the Salvation Army, Cariboo Friendship Centre, we had some food brought over to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 139, the Williams Lake Seniors Centre, and then the Green Hope Society came out and did some gleaning as well so they were able to donate some food around the Quesnel area.”
Gastadello added once the donations were given out, whatever was left over has been stored to be delivered as needed.
Many volunteers from Puddle Produce, a grade 7 class from Columneetza, a 5-6 class from Mountview Elementary, Williams Lake and District Credit Union, and several Directors and Board members from the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society, all took part in the gleaning program harvest that took in 330 pounds of nutritious food.
