ICBC issues Cyber Fraud Files of 2015

ICBC has released it’s second Hall of Shame list for 2015 and this time it’s of the Cyber Fraud variety.

Manager of the Special Investigations Unit, Chris Fairbridge says one case stands out the most.

“A Kelowna woman was involved in a motor vehicle accident when she was hit by a motorcycle, the case went to trial and she demanded $1,000,000 for her injuries but in court the judge heard the woman made inconsistent statements and denied her the money and only awarded her $20,000 but she had to pay $34,000 in legal costs for ICBC.”

Fraudulent claims in B.C. cost up to $600 million dollars each year which equates to $100 more for each driver on their annual insurance policy.
