The Pride Parade in 100 Mile House saw a great turn out for its first year.
While it was the second annual event tied to Pride, as last year only had the Pride event in the park, the 100 Mile House Pride Committee looked to expand it this year with a parade and dance.
“We put a call-out, it was more of a grassroots through social media, and we got about 12 or 15 floats to be in the parade, and people just signed up, and there’s of course no charge to go into it.” says Chris Pettman, Executive Director of the Cariboo Family Enrichment Centre.
“We want them there to help represent and be proud of the community, so it went really well.”
Pettman added that one of the goals for the parade was to have the participants who took in the parade to join it at the end, which he says went well.
They do look to have more representation from more businesses and private individuals next year.
The next steps this year are to establish a Pride Society in 100 Mile House under the BC Society Act, to help raise funds for future events.
