Branch Road Fire West Of Quesnel No Longer A Wildfire Of Note

The Quesnel area is now down to three wildfires of note.

Fire Information Officer, Madison Dahl said the Branch Road west of Quesnel is 1182 hectares in size and is not a fire note even though there are Evacuation Alerts on it.

BC Wildfire Service personnel are being assisted by local and provincial contract firefighters and heavy equipment is onsite to help with suppression efforts.

Dahl said they are utilizing planned ignitions and indirect fire suppression tactics, aircraft continues to assist when conditions allow.

Townsend Creek south west of Quesnel is currently 2665 hectares and overnight ground crews had very successful planned ignitions and no structures have been lost.

The Pelican Lake fire 6 kilometres east of the community of titetown, is 2700 hectares in size and BC Wildfire Service personnel are being assisted by local and provincial contract firefighters.

“We have a lot of BC Wildfire personnel with local and contract crews on site. Air support is limited by the heavy smoke but structure protection is a priority on that fire,” Dahl said, “The same thing with Teepee Lake, it’s 1500 hectares in size and again, structure protection is our priority along with the safety of our crew and the public. We do have heavy equipment which has been working throughout the night to lay guards.”

There are 19 active wildfires in the Quesnel Fire Zone, 10 in the Central Fire Zone, 5 in the Chilcotin Zone and non in the 100 Mile House Zone.
