100 Mile House Fire Rescue shown the ropes by Vancouver training instructors

100 Mile House Fire Rescue had their technical rope rescue skills training.

The three day training session was instructed by professionals from Vancouver over the weekend, to help keep the department up to date.

“You can’t learn everything and keep everything internally within one hall, so you need to reach out to other training providers, and it’s always great to have new people, different perspectives and the latest techniques.” says Roger Hollander, Fire Chief.

“Some of these techniques change provincially and we want to make sure that we’re at the top of those changes, and implement things where needed.”

The department will have training sessions with other organizations outside of Vancouver, to combine the different perspectives.

Hollander says this training is very important, as the ropes are used to help extricate people from embankments a few times a year.
