United Way BC will be putting $325,000 towards university students across BC to help them pursue what they want to do.
University students in the Cariboo could be able to get a bit of the funding if they have aged out of care, on a tuition waiver program, and between the ages of 18-26. The funding itself is through the Youth Futures Education Fund.
“It can be vital for folks that are pursuing their educational dreams.” says Jasica Grewal, Director of Community Impact and Investment at United Way BC.
“It can change often, the trajectory of how long it can take for students to complete their education, or even if they continue it at all. So it can really change life outcomes.”
United Way takes their cues from the number of students that are enrolled in the tuition waiver program at each university.
So far, United Way BC has supported around 2000 students, with last year being over 500.
