The BC NDP wants the Liberal Government to get on with it, and start crafting legislation surrounding doctor assisted suicide.
On Friday, the Supreme Court of Canada granted Ottawa a 4 month extension to create its own set of laws.
But NDP Health critic Judy Darcy doesn’t understand why Victoria hasn’t begun their own process. “Ontario already has, Quebec already has and British Columbia is showing absolutely no leadership on this.”
“If the Supreme Court has said; ‘no there’s no delay’ than we would not of been ready in BC and even four months from now, BC government has dropped the ball entirely.”
Darcy slammed the government for shelving a bipartisan report that told the government to get to work months ago.
Seeing that health falls in the provinces jurisdiction, she says it’s important doctors in BC know what they will be dealing with well ahead of time.
