Job Numbers Down Significantly for Cariboo Region

Stats-Canada is out with the job numbers for July and no matter how you look at them they are not good for the Cariboo region.

Andrew Fields, a Labour Market Analyst with Stats-Canada, says the
unemployment rate was 7.9 percent last month, up from 6.6 in July of 2014.

Fields says there were around 79 thousand people working in the region last month, down from roughly 87 thousand a year ago.

He says the biggest declines were in the service producing sector.

Only construction saw a slight increase in jobs.

The 7.9 percent unemployment rate is the same as last month which was the highest rate since September of 2012.

Something going on in the Cariboo you think people should know about?
