New Deal and More For Thompson River University Employees

A new agreement has been ratified between Thompson Rivers University (TRU) and CUPE local 4879.

The agreement under the provincial government’s sustainable services negotiating mandate means a wage increase of two percent annually for the next 3 years.

Over 1000 employees are covered by the agreement, including 12 the TRU campus in Williams Lake according to TRU Director of communications Darshan Lindsay.

The new agreement also means a new position will be created at TRU to assist staff and support mental health and wellness, as well as new funding for resources and programs for wellness, innovation, and training that support service improvements.

“The Sustainable Services Negotiating Mandate supports government’s commitment to improving the services people count on, making life more affordable and investing in sustainable economic growth,” the Ministry of Finance said in a news release.

“The mandate is consistent with B.C.’s commitment to balanced budgets and sound fiscal management. There are nearly 229,000 public-sector employees covered by tentative or ratified agreements reached under the mandate.”
