Daylight Savings Begins This Weekend

The clocks go forward again this weekend. The switch to daylight savings time officially happens at 3 am Sunday morning here in BC.

Municipalities throughout the province are joining the movement to abolish daylight savings as it causes a lot of disruption in sleep and scheduling, especially in the spring.

” We have no need for it,” says 100 Mile Mayor Mitch Campsall.

“There’s just no benefit to it anymore.”

In September, the Union of BC municipalities endorsed a resolution asking the government to end daylight savings. The BC government has said it will make a decision when it’s appropriate.

“We always ask people to check their smoke alarms and the best time to do it is during the time change to check your batteries and make you have a working smoke alarm in your home,” says Williams Lake Deputy Fire Chief Rob Warnock.
