The Williams Lake Airport has received $37,500 for tree removal.
Airport Manager Shea De La Mare says airport operators periodically conduct obstacle limitation surveys.
“The purpose of these surveys are to ensure that no trees, structures, buildings, or towers encroach onto the approach paths that the aircraft use for the runways. So in late 2016, we conducted that survey and we identified 30-35 trees that need to be either removed or topped.”
De La Mare says they anticipate the tree removal to take place this summer, and that there will be no operational impact to flights coming and going as they’re doing the work.
The announcement comes this week as the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is providing $10 million for the BC Air Access Program for airport infrastructure improvement projects throughout the province.
Anahim Lake Airport is receiving funding as well-$41,250 for runway enhancements.
