March Is Fraud Prevention Month

The month of March has been dubbed Fraud prevention month by the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre .

Each day of the month social media posts will be made by the CAFC with information regarding different types of scams that fraudsters use to steal money or identities.

Maureen Menzies, resident of 100 Mile House recently experienced an attempted email scam from someone claiming to be associated with PayPal.

“It said in order to cancel a payment, we need you to complete the following, it was my date of birth, my mothers maiden name, my social insurance number and I just immediately thought well there is something wrong here.”

Menzies contacted PayPal who informed her that the email she received was indeed an attempt at fraud.

If you do suspect you may be a target of fraud you are asked to please contact the CAFC or your local RCMP Non-Emergency Line.
