The Cariboo Regional District announced earlier today that a specialized text service available in the Northern Interior.
This new service called “T 9-1-1” allows people who are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired to communicate with 9-1-1 via text during an emergency.
CRD Board Chair Al Richmond explains.
“So now by people registering with their telephone provider they can dial 9-1-1 the operator will be notified if it’s a call that requires texting and then they will activate that and be able to send a message back forth in text form”.
Members of the deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired community can go online text with 911 dot ca to register their cell phone with their wireless service provider and to learn how the system works.
