Liberian family to calling williams lake home

The wait is almost over for the Williams Lake Refugee Sponsorship Group to have their family from Liberia arrive in the Cariboo.

Settlement Practitioner for Immigrant and Multi culture Services Sharon Taylor says they should be here before the month ends.

‘In two weeks they’ll be coming into Kamloops and we have groups going down to pick them up and bring them back to Williams Lake and they’ll be settling in by the third week of September”.

And because they are new to this Country Taylor says no big plans have been made to welcome them and explains why.

“We’re trying not to overwhelm them by having a lot of community events right off the bat we don’t want them to feel like they’ve moved into a fish bowl. People will get to know them over the next few months”.

The Williams Lake Refugee Sponsorship Group has apartments set up for them and ready for them to move into when they arrive and have spoken with the School District about schooling for the children.

Something going on in the Cariboo you think people should know about?
