new trail linking to the past to open wednesday in soda creek

A ribbon cutting ceremony to open a new trail at Soda Creek will be held this wednesday afternoon at three.

Community Economic Development Co-ordinator for the Soda Creek Indian Band and Xat’sull Heritage Village, Miriam Schilling says this particular trail links with ancient heritage routes dating back to the Gold Rush and beyond.

“There’s a lot of the old gold rush trails that are within this region so it does link some of these old trails and sorta of revitalizes them for current activities and usage”.

This new trail is also unique in another way as Schilling explains.

“ It’s mostly a downhill trail. It’s built right to mountain bike standards, there are some really cool features and some crazy stunts and everything. But at the same time it’s built for beginners as well. So it’s for both mountain bikers and those who like to hike”.

The trail, to be named at the opening ceremony this wednesday at 3, was made possible through a partnership between the Xat’sull First Nation, New Pathways to Gold Society and the Northern Development Initiative Trust.
