As part of Interior Health’s overdose emergency response, the Take Home Naloxone Kit program has expanded to include all Interior Health emergency departments, mental health and substance use offices as well as several community agencies.

We asked Medical Health Officer Doctor Silvina Mema  if there is a cost and who is eligible to receive them.

“The kits are free for people who are at risk. So people who use drugs or people who have an opioid prescription, for those people the kits are free”.

Friends, family members and others who wish to carry Naloxone are encouraged to purchase a kit from their local pharmacy.

In addition to making Naloxone kits more accessible, Dr Mema says the program also provides training on how to prevent, recognize and respond to an overdose situation.

In the Cariboo Chilcotin the Take Home Naloxone kits are available at the South Cariboo Health Centre in 100 Mile House, Williams Lake Health Centre, Three Corners Health Services Society, Sugar Cane and Soda Creek Health Centres.
