The Williams Lake Refugees Sponsorship Group is still waiting for final word on when their family  might arrive.

In the meantime they have been moving ahead with preparing their space so that they will feel safe and welcome once they are here.

Settlement Practitioner for Immigrant and Multiculture Services, Sharon Taylor explains why some refugee families are choosing smaller communities over larger ones.

“If they can find work , if they can get some support, that’s where they’ll start. Not everybody will stay where they go. Some people will choose to leave that community and go where the jobs are or maybe where they have other people from their country living. It’s a good place to start, a small community where people are watching out for you and caring about what happens to you”.

Taylor says they haven’t been given dates or a travel itinerary for their family coming from Liberia, but have been told they will fly into Kamloops where they will be picked up and brought to Williams Lake.

Something going on in the Cariboo you think people should know about?
