Fines reaching $250 are set to be handed out as the 100 Mile House RCMP begin their seasonal enforcement for 2016.
Sgt. Blake Ward of the 100 Mile House RCMP says operating a boat safely is one of the aspects they will be focusing on.
“One of the biggest ones we are going to be dealing with, we want to make sure people are complying with not drinking and operating boats, anybody impaired can be dealt with under the criminal code just like the impaired driving of a motor vehicle.”
Operating any vessel without the proper safety equipment readily available will get you a $200 fine, while operating a pleasure craft without proof of competency can result in a fine of $250.
There will also be fines of $250 administered for operating a pleasure craft vessel which is not licensed or failing to produce a copy of the vessel licence.
The current version of the “Safe Boating Guide” can be found on Transport Canada’s website here.
Enforcement will also be focusing on A.T.V. operation as well as campground patrols.
