A Williams Lake strongman came oh so close to making the top ten at a recent event.
March first to third Tyson Delay was in the United States competing in the Arnold Strongman Classic against 16 other competitors from around the world.
“The Arnold Classic Ohio is the biggest competition in the string of the Arnold Classic series. It’s on the same level as World Championship and whomever wins the show walks away with the title of Worlds Strongest Man in whatever weight class or category he’s in. I did fairly well getting eleventh place, two points out of tenth, so almost cracked the top ten in the world which is pretty dang cool,” Delay said.
Delay said that seven out of the ten that did beat him were either World Champions or multiple time podium finishers.
Delay noted this was the “heaviest” competition he has taken part in.
“We had the Trap Bar Dead Lift, we did 750 pounds for reps. Another one was called the Slater Log Lift. It’s a ten or a 12 foot wooden log that we had to lift overhead. Then there was the Yoke Run for 120 feet. We have to stand up with 750 pounds on our shoulders and go 120 feet and finished off with a sandbag run. There are 5 sandbags positioned in front of a bar that is about chest height, and we have to lift these over the bar and the sandbags range from 295 pounds up to 335 pounds.”
Delay said they did everything fairly close together, back to back, so in between events, he would go and do the Dead Lift then have 30 minutes after that to get ready for the next event.
Looking ahead Delay said he is prepping for the Kelowna Show in mid June which he believes is probably the best show in BC.
“I’ve done it every year, I’ve won it every year, I would like to do it again this year and win it again. I’m in a much bigger weight class now so it will be a lot more difficult but I’m going in as prepared as possible.”
