The Minister of Education and Child Care issued an order this morning (February 25th) cancelling the Trustee By-Election scheduled for March 8th for the Cariboo Chilcotin School District.
It was to be held to elect a new trustee for the Board of Education to replace Ciel Patenaude, who resigned on November 30, 2024.
In a release on the School District 27’s website it said the Board learned that the Chief Election Officer responsible for setting the date for the election scheduled the election for a time outside that permitted by the School Act.
It also said the Board learned that adequate steps to obtain the Provincial voters list within the legislated time frames were not complied with.
As a result it was necessary to cancel and reschedule the election.
The candidates who have already been nominated have been notified of this cancellation and the By-Election will be rescheduled at the earliest possible opportunity.
A new nomination process will be held.
