100 Mile House Council to Address Contentious Issue at Next Meeting

Close to 80 people filled the 100 Mile House community hall over a service the Mayor says the town is lacking on February 4th.

Mayor Maureen Pinkney says the community was divided in support and concerns over a property on Cariboo Trail that is looking to be rezoned as a youth foster care home.

“It’s a bit of a grey area for us in our community,” says Mayor Pinkney. “A balance between what our community needs as far as youth support. The lack we have in our community, as well as whether that area is the proper location for where something like that should be housed.”

She adds that currently 100 Mile has no home and foster care support property zoned in the town. The council wanted to hear the communities’ thoughts in a public hearing before making a final decision.

The primary concern was that the neighborhood is primarily seniors. They wondered what kind of youth would be living in the foster home and whether there simply was a better place to locate a youth home.

Pinkney says the Council received good feedback from the community and feels they can make a final decision on whether to give the rezoning bylaw a third reading at the next council meeting on February 11th.
