Upcoming Cariboo Weather Can Be Summed Up In 1 Word “BRRRRRRRRR”

Environment Canada is forecasting several days of winter weather ahead for the Cariboo Region.

Meteorologist Lisa Erven said a low pressure system will bring snow to the area starting tonight (Wednesday) with anywhere from 2 to 4 centimetres falling by morning and continuing throughout the day tomorrow (Thursday) with another 5 to 10 by the evening commute.

Erven noted that a second round of snow will follow Thursday night into Friday and overnight temperatures are also expected to plummet.

In the longer range forecast the temperatures do take a nosedive beginning Saturday night for the Central Interior with the overnight lows dropping down to minus 30 for the remainder of the weekend and to into next week.”

Erven noted although it will be colder than normal overnight, she doesn’t think the Cariboo will be setting any temperature records.

Something Environment Canada considers when there’s an Arctic outbreak is are we going to get into the extreme cold warnings. As of right now when I look at predicted wind chill values we could get close but it looks like those wind chill values are in the minus mid-30’s. For an extreme cold warning for the Cariboo region we’d be looking for wind chill values of minus 40 or below,” Erven said.
