Ford F-Series Continue to be Targets of Thefts, RCMP Say No Cause for Alarm

RCMP continues to report that Ford F-Series trucks remain a prime target for thieves in the 100 Mile House area.

Recent weekend reports from the RCMP detail two separate theft attempts on Ford F250s, one on December 27 and another on January 2, both in the 700 Block of Alder Avenue.

These incidents mark the third consecutive weekend in which early 2000s model F-Series trucks were targeted.

“There are similar consistencies, the method and mode of attempting to or successfully taking these vehicles are similar in nature,” says Sergeant Brian Lamb. “It is a consideration it could be one or two people are involved. Somebody familiar with how to bypass the ignition and locks. The damage found to the vehicles in those areas has all been the same.”

Lamb also reassures residents that, despite the recent theft attempts, they have been “otherwise sporadic” and there is “no cause for concern.”

“Other than the years, makes and damage, there is no alarming trend that has been identified, yet. Attempted thefts have occurred in different parts of 100 Mile. We do have routine vehicle theft here. It is only recently that F-Series trucks have been targeted.”

While thefts remain a concern, RCMP encourages residents to take extra precautions. Double-check that vehicles are locked, and alarms are set, and consider using an immobilization device.

“As long as people are taking the usual precautions for their vehicles, they will be safe,” says Lamb.

Lamb also advises residents to avoid parking in open areas or parking lots away from their homes.

RCMP is asking anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the Alder Avenue area or has information or footage of the theft attempts to contact the 100 Mile House detachment.
