Central Cariboo Search & Rescue Saw A Jump In Callouts This Year

It was quite the year for the volunteer members of the Central Cariboo Search and Rescue Team.

Member and Public Relations Deborah Bortolussi said they saw an increase in the number of tasks they attended in 2024.

“We responded to 204 Auto Extrication call outs which is a twenty five percent increase from 2023. SARS responded to 35 Land Search and Rescue tasks and that was a ten percent increase from last year. In total all of our volunteers dedicated 13,450 hours to the community.”

It also the busiest travel day of the year on our Cariboo Roads and Highways and with that in mind Bortolussi had these driving tips for motorists.

“When we see busy travel days like today (December 24) and if we pair that with any inclement weather at all, we definitely see an increase of call outs. We want people to keep in mind to plan their trip, take your time, be prepared for increased traffic, and to remember that impaired and distracted driving is never acceptable.”
