Looking Back At 2024 With Mayor Pinkney

2024 was a year highlighted by a couple of big events in the South Cariboo.

District of 100 Mile House Mayor Maureen Pinkney said one was the continuation of the replacement of the Saw Mill Creek Bridge on Horse Lake Road.

We ended up in October having to resurface it again because we didn’t have the permit. We do have the permit now and so that was a whole year of struggling trying to go through the process and getting the permit and now we will be able to start replacement next year and that’s been a six year long project.”

Pinkney noted that the new bridge will be fantastic and the District looks forward to that in the new year.

2024 was also an extreme water conservation year that started in the beginning of the summer and went into the fall as the District had to re-condition the wells and put water restrictions in place which residents got on board with.

We really had massive restrictions on and our community just really rocked it, they were so on board. We got our water levels down to our winter use immediately and we just can’t thank our residents for helping out in that matter,” Pinkney said.

She believes the District is on a new road on how to fix the water source for 100 Mile House which will continue into 2025 and that it was definitely a big challenge for 2024.

And Pinkney couldn’t say enough about the volunteer efforts shown by community residents that started at the very beginning of the year and made an amazing difference in every event that was held in 2024.
