Tis The Season To Be Careful On Our Cariboo Roads & Highways

Not all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season is happening in the stores.

As we get even closer to Christmas the roads and highways will be bustling with vehicles making their way to see family and friends in other parts of the Province.

RCMP Detachments throughout the Cariboo want you to have a worry-free and safe driving experience and to keep some of these tips in mind.

100 Mile House Sargeant Brian Lamb said number one, give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination as we do have a lot of travellers from all over coming through the region for the Holidays.

“Be mindful of changing weather and road conditions. In this area we can have sudden changes where it could be raining, freezing rain and or snow. Focus on your driving and on the road. Christmas is a busy season and a lot of people have lots of different thoughts on their minds. And don’t drive if you feel uncomfortable. If it’s dark or snowing, or the road conditions don’t look that great, then delay your travel until you feel comfortable to drive.”

Lamb added to be patient with other drivers, not everybody feels comfortable driving at certain speeds if the road and weather conditions are bad so please be cognizant of that.

And during the Holiday Season motorists should expect to see more check stops and enforcement on the highway and area roads.

“BC Highway Patrol currently has a campaign targeting impaired drivers so one could expect to see a check stop just about anywhere. I advise drivers if you are going to partake in the consumption of alcohol or cannabis to find a designated driver, plan ahead, and if you don’t feel like you should be driving then you shouldn’t be, you should obviously stay where you are at,” Lamb said.
