There Was Christmas Magic And Music At The Deni House

Santa and his helpers made a special visit from the North Pole to entertain the residents at the Deni House in Williams Lake.

Recreation Program Director Krista Friesen said today (Thursday) they had the chance to enjoy the spirit of Christmas, play a few games, have a turkey lunch and enjoy singing along to their favourite festive songs.

“We had some families join us here today to enjoy with their family members a chance to celebrate the season. Overall we have about 25 or 30 volunteers that do come in over the Christmas holidays. We had a big musical group that came in this past Tuesday and they were here the week before as well to share the Spirit of the Season with our residents.”

Friesen noted that they try to do some different every year during the Holidays at the Deni House and that they’ve even had some kids groups stop in to sing some carols.

“It’s real nice to be able to bring back those memories of Christmas to our residents. I really love what we do here.”

Fay Breck, Registered Nurse at the Deni House said this is a real morale booster.

“It gets you into the season, we’re getting close to Christmas Day and this is a big deal not being at home for a lot of people so it makes it wonderful. We also have the Adult Day Services Program that is joining us today for the fun as well.”

Breck said to keep Holidays light and bright for the residents they do paintings, arts and crafts for the Christmas Season, they decorate cookies and have bake sales and watch Christmas movies.

“It’s amazing. The staff absolutely loves it. It makes us feel that this is what Christmas is all about. It’s about loving, caring, and spreading cheer.”
