A large storm will be impacting much of the province today (December 17) including parts of the Cariboo.
That’s why Environment Canada issued a Snowfall Warning for Williams Lake and Quesnel.
Meteorologist Lisa Erven said the warning will be in effect for the next 12 to 24 hours with flurries to begin during the evening commute and intensify as we go throughout the evening hours.
Erven noted we could see snowfall rates of up to 2 centimetres an hour for several hours later tonight and into the overnight period.
“For snowfall amounts we’re generally looking at about 10 centimetres for Williams Lake and Quesnel and that could be closer to 20 centimetres for communities such as Wells, Bakerville, Likely and Horsefly, those areas close to the Cariboo Mountains.”
Erven said it’s that key combination of precipitation amounts and temperatures that is bringing the snowfall to our region along with windy conditions.
“That can often end up blowing the snow around and end up reducing visibility so motorists should be prepared to adjust their driving with changing road conditions. Definitely slow drive, leaving extra room in front and behind as much as possible which will help keep you safe as we move through the evening and into tomorrow morning.”
Erven said the bulk of the snowfall will come in the overnight period easing by about the 6 or 7 o’clock hour in the morning.
