Williams Lake RCMP Encourages Residents To Use Operation Red Nose

Operation Red Nose will be back in operation in the Lake City starting tomorrow night (Friday) to give safe rides home to motorists over the Holiday Season.

Sargeant Brad Mckinnon of the Williams Lake RCMP said this is a remarkable program that helps reduce the number of impaired drivers on the roads.

We encourage anyone attending a Christmas or some type of social event or gathering where alcohol or other forms of impairment may be enjoyed to contact Operation Red Nose and utilize that service to get home safely and to avoid any temptation that may exist to drive while under the influence.”

McKinnon noted that this is a very busy time of year for law enforcement and proactive traffic patrols.

He reminds motorists that they will see a significant increase in the presence of police officers out ensuring road safety with a drastic uptick in traffic stops and sobriety checks.

Sometimes people are reluctant, they worry about leaving their vehicles whether it be in a parking lot of a pub or at a friends house. Operation Red Nose will help get your vehicle home too. Sometimes people don’t realize that so while you can arrive at the party sober you can come home when the evening’s over and your vehicle is in your driveway the next morning because Operation Red Nose takes steps to get you and your vehicle home safely.”

McKinnon said before he became a member of the RCMP he use to volunteer his time driving for Operation Red Nose over the Christmas Holidays which is a good way to give back to your community.

Operation Red Nose will begin to take calls to get you and your vehicle home safely tomorrow (Friday) from 9 pm to 3 am and then every Friday and Saturday until December 21st and again on new years eve.
