What started as a Land Practice for members of the Central Cariboo Search and Rescue (CCSAR) Team turned into a real rescue call out.
On Sunday (November 17) they were hosting a training session with other Search and Rescue members from the South Cariboo, Quesnel, West Chilcotin, Kamloops and Barriere.
Public Relations and Member Deborah Bortolussi said upon arrival at the CCSAR hall, participants were briefed on the practice scenario after which they proceeded to initiate the mock search.
Shortly after they reached the designated location for this practice, they received a call mid-morning regarding an overdue hunter in the Tyee Lake area North of Deep Creek.
“We then utilized the Search and Rescue groups who were part of our event as well as frontline helicopters, PEP Air, RCMP and their search dog joined us on this task. The person was able to find their way out and Search and Rescue stood down from our search efforts and we were able to go back to our practice,” Bortolussi said.
Having all those other Search and Rescue members on hand, and with our gear all ready to go, made our response time quick Bortolussi added.
