A Sharp Idea Thats Keeps On Giving Every Winter In Williams Lake

For the 11th year a program to help others in need of ice skates is being offered by the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society (CCCS).

Program Coordinator Daniella Gastaldello said Skates for All is a great way for Williams Lake residents to donate their gently used ones that their family members are no longer using.

Gastaldello said all winter long they can be dropped off in collection bins set up inside the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex and at Total Ice.

As they’re collected, the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society sends them over to Caribou Ski Source for Sports to be sharpened and disinfected before they are re-distributed.

Gastadello added that they’re always looking for sizes from the small little kid sizes right up to adults.

This year we’re kind of running a bit low on some of the larger adults sizes and the smaller kids sizes so those ones would definitely be useful this year for the program to keep going. So far we have already managed to re-home almost 20 pairs of skates that was before we even advertised about it on social media.”

Skates for All is part of the CCCS Waste Wise program through the Cariboo Regional District and City of Williams Lake.

Last year Skates for All distributed 94 pairs and 130 in 2022.
