The CRD has issued a Boil Water Notice due to the new water supply well in Lac La Hache.
Kelly McDonald, Manager of Utilities for the CRD, says the notice ‘is a precaution’ after the new water supply well was connected earlier in the afternoon on November 15.
“While we’re bringing in the new water well online, the precautionary best practice is to put an advisory out until we can get some sampling after it’s been running for a while,” McDonald says. “When they first do their studies on the well, there’s a chemical profile, and bacterial. Just as a precaution, we like to resample and confirm the results are accurate. It’s industry practice.”
McDonald says that the new well is located a hundred feet from the old well, and that the new well is dug deeper into the ground to not be influenced by the surface water.
Residents of Lac La Hache and the surrounding area are asked to bring water to a rolling boil for a minimum of one minute before using water from the system for:
– Drinking
– Cooking
– Brushing Teeth
– Washing Dishes
– Washing fruits and vegetables and
– Watering animals
Everyone is also encourage to use hand sanitizer after washing hands.
The Notice is in effect until further notice.
McDonald is hopeful that the system will be cleared in about two weeks.
