The Quesnel Curling is asking the North Cariboo Joint Advisory Committee to co-host the 2026 Provincial Curling Championships.
The Curling Club is requesting the same arrangement it had with the City and the CRD back in 2019 when it hosted this event.
That involved free ice at the West Fraser Centre and some staff time, but there was definitely some hesitancy to do that at this week’s Joint Planning meeting.
Councillor Martin Runge and CRD Area B Director Barb Bachmeier both suggested that the club should cover the costs this time around, which would be in line with the committee’s Fees and Charges Bylaw.
Others suggested that staff go back to the curling club to see what costs could be recouped.
The Lhtako Dene Nation has already agreed to co-host this event should it come to Quesnel.
It would take place between December 26th and January 4th of 2026.
Time is running out to apply however, as Curl BC would like to make an announcement by the end of the month.
