Several homes found themselves without power in the South Cariboo.
Dave Mosure, Community Relations for BC Hydro said yesterday (November 11) afternoon just after 12:30, 1,737 customers in the Canim-Hendrix Lake Road area were affected by a power outage when a tree fell taking out the lines.
“Crews were dispatched and made repairs restoring the power just before 5 yesterday afternoon.” Mosure said, “The impacted area included Ridge View Road, Centre Houseman Road, Upper Houseman Road, Canim Lake Road, Canim-Hendrix Lake Road, Lund Road, Chuckwagon Trail, Archie Meadow Road and Bates Road.”
Mosure said as we ease into the winter weather, the first wind storms we get they show us the weak trees that are being impacted particularly by the drought conditions we’re having.
He also noted its good to be prepared for any kind of power outage before affects your home.
“There are two things to keep in mind. One to have that 72-hour emergency pack ready to go with food, water, any medications that anyone in the house might need, some non-perishable food items.”
Mosure also reminds the public if you come across a downed power line always assume it to be live, stay back 10 metres or 33-feet, call 9-1-1 to report the issue as emergency responders will arrive faster than our crews and they’ll control the scene until our power line technicians can arrive and make the scene safe.
