An act of kindness saved the lives of several abandoned cats.
While driving through 70 Mile House over the Thanksgiving weekend, a woman from Vancouver found a small canvas pet carrier on the side of the road in a truck pullout.
Manager of the BC SPCA’s Vancouver animal Centre, Jodi Dunlop, said the woman pulled over and was shocked to discover ten cats including a mom and her five kittens and a pregnant cat in the carrier.
“I was contacted by the helpline that weekend. At the time we didn’t know where the cats had been found only that they were on their way to Vancouver.” Dunlop said, “and we started to prepare for the cats to come into our care. The finder later informed us that she would be arriving in Vancouver very late Monday, too late for us to bring them into the animal centre so they stayed overnight in her home.”
Dunlop said they were brought to the centre on Tuesday October 15th and were checked for identification which there was none, and they were given a full veterinary examination.
She said they are all healthy and the nursing mom and her kittens were placed in a foster home.
The pregnant cat gave birth to five kittens the day she arrived.
The BC SPCA reminds people that it is an offence under the prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, as well as the Criminal Code of Canada to abandon an animal.
