Hard Work & Perseverance Pays Off For Williams Lake Strongman

A Williams Lake Strongman, Tyson Delay, has finally achieved his dream.

“After 8-years of competing, 10-years of training, I have become the Canadian Middleweight Strongman Champion and earned my pro status.” Delay said.

He was in New Brunswick recently competing in this event along with 175 other athletes from across the country.

“The weight class I competed in was the biggest we’ve ever seen ever in Canadian history. There were five different tests of strength,” Delay said, “one was dragging a sled which was actually a bunch of crab traps for time and I finished second to last. The second event was lifting a series of different weighted logs overhead, I ended up winning that one.”

The remaining events Delay competed included a log press that went up to 295-pounds which he was the only one to achieve that feat and finished first.

There was also a car dead lift that was 600-pounds that he won and then there was the sandbag medley.

“You have to run with different weight sandbags back and forth, throw them over objects, pick them up again and keep going with them and I ended up winning that event as well. And the final test of strength was lifting a bunch of very heavy stones ranging from 240 to 335-pounds and I finished first in that,” Delay said.

Every province hosts provincial and the best athletes from those different provinces goes to the Canadian Nationals.

“The three athletes that went to provincials from Williams Lake all made the podium. There was myself, Stephen Hall and Jamie Young. This is their first season, they’re both incredibly genetically gifted and both spent a long time in the gym working very hard at this,” Delay said.
