Agencies Recognized For Efforts Made During Williams Lake River Valley Wildfire

It took a dedicated team effort to control and extinguish the River Valley Wildfire back on July 21st.

On Thursday night, (October 17), Williams Lake Fire Chief Evan Dean visited the Central Cariboo Search and Rescue hall to show the Department’s appreciation for the assistance the SARS team gave when called upon to that situation.

I actually gave one to Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department the night before. We had some other ones for our other local agencies that gave us support in the area. It was really important to us that we recognized our local partners. We also had 15 support agencies that we’re sending plaques to as well in the mail. We really wanted to reach out to everyone and says thanks for all the support we got.”

Dean reflected on how well it went perfectly that night.

There was quite a bit of excitement and a little bit of chaos for a few minutes but having partners like CSARS, Wildwood, 150 Mile Fire and Williams Lake RCMP, those agencies when we can rely on them just makes our job a whole lot easier.”

Public Relations and SARS member, Debra Bortolussi said they were surprised and honoured by the presentation and reflected on that summer evening.

The River Valley Wildfire was a large event, very close to our own Hall and many of our own homes. It definitely represented how when natural disasters are happening or large scale events, how not only how our team comes together, but how the community does as well.”

Bortolussi said it was wonderful to be recognized in this way, we do what we do the for the community because we love it and we care, and we want to do our part.
