The Future May Be A Little Brighter for South Green Lake Residents

The Thompson Nicola Regional District is asking residents of South Green Lake to take part in a survey.

The focus is on a proposed street lighting service in that area allowing for the addition of several streetlights in strategic locations on Green Lake South Road.

Jo Kang Community Services Coordinator for the TNRD said earlier last year a group of residents reached out regarding some safety concerns and the possibility of getting some street lights.

On the information sheet you’ll see 8 street lights that we proposed as of right now and if there is an ask from the community for more or less that’s why we have that survey out to see if those spots are appropriate and the community deems necessary at those spots or if there are other spots they think would be more appropriate.”

The proposed service area includes all properties on Green Lake South Road, from the intersection with North Bonaparte Road to the end of the road.

If there is community support to move forward with a new street lighting service, the TNRD said a formal process will need to be conducted either through an alternative approval process, referendum, or a petition and a public accent vote would be administered.

If successful the new street lighting service would begin the following year.

The survey is open until November 15th.
