Williams Lake RCMP Assisted By Minor Hockey Players In Cramming The Cruiser

A very successful event!

That’s how Williams Lake RCMP Staff Sargeant Brad McKinnon summed up yesterday’s (Sunday) “Cram the Cruiser” in front of Save On Foods.

Police, along with the U15 Tier 2 Timber Wolves hockey team, that McKinnon coaches, managed to fill two RCMP truck loads of food between 11 and 3 that will be going to help stock the food bank shelves at the Williams Lake Salvation Army for this upcoming long Thanksgiving Day weekend.

The hockey players that were involved I think they learned some valuable lessons, they made it extra-special. Everyone I think loves supporting Minor Hockey but when we see these athletes giving back to the community I think it’s a special thing. They were doing a lot things, helping shoppers out particularly the elderly in the store. They were carrying groceries to vehicles, handing out shopping carts, they were extremely helpful to the store and the patrons who attended.”

McKinnon said in addition to the food donations they also raised over a thousand dollars that was turned into gift cards to give to the food bank to use towards their turkey dinner for those in need.

McKinnon noted that they plan to hold another larger food drive event at all three grocery stores in the Lake City just before the Christmas Holidays with all First Responders taking part.
