Two Cariboo junior hockey teams will be wearing alternate jerseys to honour Truth and Reconciliation this weekend.
The Williams Lake Mustangs will be wearing orange jerseys tonight which the team, in collaboration with the Orange Jersey Project, have been working on since June.
Logistics Manager, Leslie Rowse talks about the jersey creation process.
“The base of the jersey was designed through the Orange Jersey Project so, that was all their creation and they came up with that.” says Rowse.
“Then they had encouraged us to use our logo on the front to represent the support that we are providing.”
During the game, the game worn jerseys will be available though a silent auction, with profits to be donated to local youth sports in the community.
Head Coach and General Manager, Tyrel Lucas says having games like these brings extra buzz around the team.
Players had an early morning skate this morning, where Williams Lake First Nation Chief, Willie Sellars spoke about what the teams support means to the community and vice versa.
Lucas says this is their community that they’re playing in, so there’s the history behind it, and the future and the building around it.
The Mustangs will take on the Osoyoos Coyotes at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex at 7:00pm
The Quesnel River Rush are at home and will have a pregame dancer tomorrow, and will be wearing alternate jerseys against the Coyotes, with puck drop at 7:00pm.
