Williams Lake and the Cariboo region will have better representation with the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM).
Councillor Sheila Boehm will be one of the five Directors at Large, which was announced at last week’s UBCM convention in Vancouver.
Boehm says you need to be elected by everyone in attendance to get the role.
“It’s a further reflection I think of the province recognizing the difference in small rural BC.” says Boehm.
“It’s nice that we get such northern support by all of our members that I was elected so, pretty excited to represent Williams Lake and rural Northern BC.”
Boehm says there would be more opportunities to discuss resolutions directly with Ministers.
Having a local voice in that position allows for better understanding and relatability between issues being discussed and the Northern part of the province.
She says this is a yearly role, and would likely campaign again next year.
