Williams Lake Fire Department Answers The Call To Raise Funds For Muscular Dystrophy

It was a record breaking fundraising campaign for the Williams Lake Fire Department.

They along with members from the Wildwood Fire Department raised over 15-thousand dollars this past weekend during the Muscular Dystrophy Boot Drive.

Williams Lake Fire Department member and MD Regional Advisor for the Cariboo, Dereck Sulentich said this particular event has been going on since 1973 in the Lake City and is the charity of choice for fire fighters across North America.

Sulentich explained where the funds will be going.

It goes to improving the quality of life for people that are afflicted with neuro muscle disorders

and will also go to research. It comes back to the community because we have about a dozen clients that are afflicted. The ultimate goal is finding a cure for these disorders.”

He thanked the businesses who took part in helping them with the Boot Drive, Tim Hortons on the Highway, BC Liquor Store, Save On Foods, Canadian Wholesale, Canadian Tire, Walmart and Freshco.

Last year the Muscular Dystrophy Boot Drive in Williams Lake raised 13-thousand dollars and Sulentich said he and the department are very grateful for the generosity shown by everyone who donated between Friday night and Sunday afternoon.
