The province is providing funding to Cariboo communities for disaster risk resilience and climate-adaptation projects.
The Cariboo will be getting $1,381,789 out of $56 million from the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund’s Disaster Risk Reduction – Climate Adaptation Stream to help minimize the risk of future disasters and support communities to make informed decisions.
Minister of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, Bowinn Ma said “climate change is no longer a future concern, it’s happening now and we’re seeing its impact all over British Columbia.”
She added they’re committed to helping communities become more resilient, allowing them to adapt to the changing climate and better protect themselves and their residents against future climate challenges.
100 Mile House will be getting $97,289 for the Bridge Creek drought assessment, with Quesnel receiving $84,500 for their Dragon Lake Dam planning.
Williams Lake will be getting the remaining $1.2 million for Hazard and vulnerability risk assessment and Fairview Drive emergency booster station.
